That’s despite the 27-year-old not being named for the NSW Surge ahead of the side’s opening round match against the Queensland Brigade in Sydney this Saturday.
Goodwin had been selected in the Surge’s final squad of 20 players for the upcoming season but failed to make the final cut for this weekend’s historic clash.
“It’s a bit of a bummer I won’t be running out there but at the same time I’ll be sitting on the sidelines cheering the girls on,” Goodwin said.
“I’m definitely still competing for a spot in the side though. You wouldn’t wish injury on anyone but it’s a contact sport and you don’t know what might happen. Maybe a spot will open up.”
This Saturday’s match will mark the season launch of the LFL, a rebranded version of the Lingerie Football League which has grown in popularity in its home country the United States in recent years.
NSW have already been dubbed title favourites to take out the four-team competition which also includes sides from Queensland, Western Australia and Victoria.
“They’ve ranked us as the number one side which might not mean a lot considering this is the first season so they don’t have a lot to base it on,” Goodwin said.
“But we’ve definitely got a big job to do.”
