Who: Queanbeyan v North Canberra Gungahlin
Where: Harrison 2
When: Saturday, 11am
HE produced career best figures to help Queanbeyan secure an outright victory over Ginninderra last weekend.
And Bluebags off spinner Mark Solway couldn’t have hit form at a better time with the teenager readying for next week’s Australian Under-19s Championships in Hobart.
The 18-year-old bagged 6-63 last Saturday to help bundle Ginninderra out for just 145 in their second innings. It was Solway’s first five-wicket haul since stepping up to first grade last season.
“I was pretty stoked actually,” Solway said. “I’ve been putting in a fair bit of training lately and hadn’t been seeing too many results so it was good to finally see them. Especially with 19s coming up.”
Solway will be one of three Queanbeyan representatives in the ACT side for next week’s championships alongside fellow spinner Alex Page and batsman Lakshmn Shivakumar.
It will be Solway’s second appearance at the under-19s championships, having represented the ACT on at the same stage in January.
Then, Solway stood as the youngest member of the ACT outfit.
But with that experience and an extra year of cricket under his belt, he said next week’s championships were about stepping up into his new role as one of the side’s senior players.
“The last couple of years have been good experience for me and a lot of learning,” he said. “This year I want to go out and try to dominate a bit more.”
Queanbeyan, meanwhile, will be looking to continue its unbeaten start to the two-day season against North Canberra Gungahlin starting this weekend.
