THE small town of Captains Flat will throw open it's garages to the world this Saturday as part of the third annual Community Association Garage Sale.
Over 20 homes in the small town have already signed up for the sale, and Community Association president Rick Brown said he was expecting a great community day.
"It's just an opportunity for the locals of the town to get together and all have a garage sale, all on the same day and the same time, so that we can encourage visitors from Queanbeyan and Canberra to come out, have a hunt around and make a good day of it," he said.
"We always get some weird and wonderful items at these garage sales. I think you get a bit more variety because we're a rural area; it's not all the typical stuff you see in town."
The garage sales start from 8am, and you can pick up a map of all the registered garage sales around town from the Rural Fire Service office on Foxlow Street.
"The local RFS will also be putting on a sausage sizzle in the morning, and for a gold coin donation you can have a map that has the locations of all the garage sales and a brief listing of what they're selling, and then you can hunt around to your delight and see what bargains you can find," Mr Brown said.
And for those considering a tree-change to a small country town, event sponsor Estate Realty will be hosting a number of open houses on the day to showcase Captains Flat real estate.
