"We make no bones about it- we've brought a bit of style into Queanbeyan."
So says Catherine Haskins, co-owner of 4th Seed Cafe, and the steady stream of customers through the doors of the new Crawford St eatery would suggest she's onto something.
The chic new cafe opened late last year following the major Crawford St lifestyle precinct upgrade and Royal Hotel refurb.
And in less than a year, it's now had its own refurb, taking over the lease of a next door shopfront and expanding its dining space. This week the cafe also opened its doors on a Monday for the first time to accommodate demand.
Mrs Haskins said the new lifestyle precinct had proved a successful location for the burgeoning business.
"It's fantastic. One of the reasons we chose to open a cafe here is that when we saw the Royal doing so well, straight away we thought 'someone else has taken on the hard work for us.'
"When we opened it we imagined it'd be a coffee/takeaway sort of thing, but people really wanted a place to sit... so opening a space where they can sit in all weather has proved to be a worthwhile exercise," she said.
Ms Haskins also credited a sleek, modern fit out and a lunch menu filled with quality ingredients as crucial to the cafe's early success.
"I think what people don't realise is that there's actually a lot of wealth here in Queanbeyan," she said.
"There's a lot of people like us around- younger people and young families who are craving a bit of culture in their town," she said.
"And it's just an incredibly strong community."
