QUEANBEYAN mayor Tim Overall says there could be even more funding pumped into renovating Seiffert Oval in the wake of a $1.12 million funding announcement for the facility.
The money, a joint commitment from Liberal candidate for Eden-Monaro Peter Hendy and Queanbeyan City Council, would go toward much-needed refurbishments at the ground.
Mr Hendy committed $500,000 to the project should the Coalition win next month's federal election with the remaining $620,000 to be provided by council.
"Here in Queanbeyan this particular project was one of the top priorities that was raised with me and the coalition by the Queanbeyan City Council," Mr Hendy said.
"We're satisfied QCC has done due diligence on the proposal for refurbishment of the ground and ... we're convinced this is a priority for the local community."
In welcoming Mr Hendy's funding commitment, Cr Overall said the money would go toward returning Queanbeyan's premier sporting facility to its former glory.
And he suggested even more funding could be on the cards further down the track.
"We've also had some discussions with the NSW state government and the local member for Monaro [John Barilaro] in regard to a further contribution," he said.
