CANBERRA City moved off the foot of the ACT Premier League table with a 5-2 hammering of Monaro Panthers at Riverside Stadium on Sunday.
The visitors had taken a stranglehold on proceedings as early as the 10th minute with a first City goal for Daniel Di-Salvatore and a strike from Pat Ross-Magee.
Panthers defender Danny Byrne reduced the deficit in the 25th minute only for Jay Kelly to make it 3-1 to City six minutes later.
With a two-goal lead heading into the second half the next strike would be crucial and it was City that got it courtesy of another goal from Ross-Magee, his sixth of the campaign.
Monaro could have buckled at this stage but fought on gamely and Pepe Varga registered his tenth goal of an excellent year with thirteen minutes remaining.
There was still time for further action however, and Ross Edwards capped a fine display five minutes from time bringing up City’s fifth and confirming their best win of the season.
The Panthers travel to Hawker Football Centre on Thursday evening to play a catch-up match against the same opponents.
