A WOMAN was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after crossing to the wrong side of the road and hitting an embankment on the Kings Highway east of Bungendore.
The 55-year-old Cowra woman was travelling west on the Kings Highway at about 12.10pm, Tuesday afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle and struck the embankment.
It took a Queanbeyan Fire Rescue crew more than an hour to free the woman from the Holden Commodore which sustained significant damage.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and lacerations and was taken to Canberra Hospital.
Queanbeyan Police inspector Anthony Hill said the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
