SOME of Queanbeyan's best-known faces will hit the stage this weekend to take part in SIDS and Kids fundraiser, Canberra Takes Two.
Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall and Blend by Design Owner Nicole Prior have returned and are joined by newcomers Member for Monaro John Barilaro and local identity and fundraiser extraordanaire, Franca Jones.
The four have been paired with professional singers and will have just four minutes to wow the crowd with their dulcet tones and raise money for SIDS and Kids ACT.
Mr Barilaro admitted he was a little nervous as he hadn't sung on stage since he was 16-years-old. As a teenager he played the part of Eliza Doolittle's father in Queanbeyan High School's production of My Fair Lady.
"I recently received an email from deputy premier Andrew Stoner- he told me as a singer, I make a great politician," he said.
"So that's a bit of an indication of my singing capabilities, it will be embarrassing but it's for a worthy cause."
Spare a thought for Mrs Jones who said she had no singing experience at all.
"I've been living this song, it's in my head when I wake and go to bed," she said.
"But it's only four minutes and if I can make a difference and raise some money, that's why I'm doing it."
Cr Overall, a seasoned Canberra Takes Two participant, had some advice for the debut singers. He said to take a light-hearted approach to the performance.
"The worst part is the 15 minutes on stage beforehand. I think just enjoy yourself and really put yourself out there. In other words, don't be too serious."
Cr Overall said this weekend may well be the public's last opportunity to catch a glimpse of his vocal ability.
"This is my public farewell stage appearance ... unless of course I'm offered a recording contract," he said.
Ms Prior said she was happy to return tot he stage and been rehearsing as much as possible with her car serving as one of her prime rehearsal spaces.
"I loved being in last year's performance," she said. "It's about the charity, not about your voice ...the louder you sing, the better it sounds."
Canberra Takes Two will be held at Queanbeyan's Bicentennial Hall on Saturday, July 20 at 6.30pm Tickets are still available and can be purchased at canberratakestwo.eventbrite.com.au.
