THE draw for the first day’s play of the Queanbeyan Women’s Bowls Club Minor Singles competition has been released with some exciting matches slated to get the tournament underway.
Saturday’s play will see Lorraine Kermond take on Nicki Nesci while Margaret Solcraig will meet Jeanette Brewer. Fay Solway will go up against Ann Martens with Nerida Black drawn to face Val Cash.
The final match of the Saturday’s action will see Maureen Ellison take on Mandy Stitt.
Last weekend meanwhile, saw Queanbeyan’s remaining team bundled out of the ACT Pairs championship at Canberra North.
After making their way through to the quarter-finals, Queanbeyan pairing Jan Sutton and Coral McMurray proved no match for Belconnen duo Janet Healey and Nicole Mengel who showed why they are rated as title favourites.
Earlier in the day, Sutton and McMurray staged a stirring comeback to force their way into the final eight, downing Forrest pairing Jimmie Ogle and Robyn Moxon.
Queanbeyan’s victory came after Sutton and McMurray had trailed by as many as 13 shots early in the contest before turning the tables and eventually running out winners 29-21.
In other club news, next week will see the club hold its annual Patron’s Day on Tuesday, March 19.
