AS a newly re-launched business in town, the Royal Hotel has found that sponsoring local community groups can be a great way to boost its community currency and promote its brand.
The hotel launched a new loyalty card this week- or 'Royalty Card' as it's being called- which customers can purchase for $5 from the hotel and then enjoy a range of discounts and special offers over the year.
But rather than pocketing the $5 cost of the cards sold, hotel owner Peter Griffiths is giving all the funds raised to HOME in Queanbeyan, the local, community-run mental health residence. The hotel has also announced it will become a major sponsor of the Queanbeyan Whites rugby club as a way of further boosting its community engagement.
"We wanted to get a community program together as we're still a new and growing member of the Queanbeyan community, so we're now sponsoring the Queanbeyan Whites and we're proud to do so," Mr Griffiths said on Monday.
It's come at an opportune time for the rugby club, which unlike other major football clubs in Queanbeyan doesn't enjoy the financial support of its own leagues club.Committee member Richard Maloney said the club was grateful for the support.
"We're fundamentally a community-based club, so we rely on sponsorship and community support to cover things like player insurance and registration."So we're really grateful for this community-based support from the Royal," Mr Maloney said.
HOME in Queanbeyan is also an entirely community-run organisation, and manager Anne Pratt said the new partnership with the Royal was an extra link to Queanbeyan residents.
"It's a great thing. HOME is very much about the community and it relies on community support. So this is another way people in Queanbeyan can support HOME," she said.
Queanbeyan City Travel and Cruise has leant its support to the move, sponsoring a South Pacific Cruise for four people worth $10,000. Patrons can enter the draw to win when they sign up for the card.
