Last weekend saw two rounds of the club’s Major Pairs competition played with three teams already through to the semi-finals.
In the bottom half of the draw, Audrey Pritchard and Nicki Nesci will play Maggie Johnston and Lorraine Donney in the first of the semi-final match ups.
Johnston and Donney moved through to the finals after two hard fought matches, including a tight tussle against Pam Hannaford and Jan Sutton.
Hannaford and Sutton had progressed after a first-round win over last year’s winners Karen Harradence and Coral McMurray.
In the top half of the draw, Margaret Davies and Bette McDonald also had a real battle on their hands before coming out in front of Betty Miller and Pat Legge.
In the remaining quarter-final to be played on Saturday morning, Maureen Ellison and Barbara Baker will take on Mandy Stitt and Sandra Warren.
In other news, the club has just completed the first two rounds of the Darby’s Derby – a competition for bowlers coming through its Try Bowls program.
With the club’s new bowlers leading and a number of bowlers from last year skipping, the Derby has seen some great results so far.
Jenny Cook in particular has taken to skipping like a duck to water having led her team to two good wins.
Ann Martens and Linda Toohey had a great battle this week which ended in just a four-shot margin and Sue Merrifield is also showing plenty of promise.
This Friday meanwhile, will see the club play host to a group of bowlers from Jersey, UK. The club has a game commencing at 2pm followed by an afternoon tea and another 10 ends to be played.
