New coach on the look out for Qbn's next hot shots

NEW Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club head coach Bronwyn Kitchener says she is hopeful implementing new junior programs being introduced by Tennis Australia can help revive the club.

Kitchener was recently appointed as head coach at the Campbell Street Club, taking over from former coach John Bennett in the role.

Her latest role continues Kitchener’s long association with Queanbeyan Park, and marks her second stint as head coach.

“I’m quite excited because after talking to Tennis ACT, I believe there are some new programs that can be implemented at the club,” Kitchener said following her appointment.

“There’s a new Hot Shots program and also Cardio Tennis which I hope to implement so that the club can be can be revived.

“You’ve got to keep progressing with new initiatives and I think these ideas that Tennis Australia are trying to implement deserve to be given a go.”

Queanbeyan Park has not been immune to the Australia-wide trend in recent years that has seen a significant decline in younger players taking up the sport.

And after six years away from the Queanbeyan coaching scene, Kitchener said it was imperative for the club to re-engage its junior base.

“The club has excellent facilities with nine fantastic synthetic grass courts so my main aim is to increase participation in the juniors and also to work out some new ways to keep the older players playing as well.”

Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club will be holding its annual open day on Sunday, February 10 from 10.30am with the public invited to head down to the courts and have a hit. There will be a free sausage sizzle from 12pm.
