Gallery: Qbn welcomes its newest citizens

THERE were plenty of smiles at Queanbeyan Town Park on Saturday with a record 65 local residents involved in the city's annual Citizenship ceremony.

Seventeen different nations were represented at the ceremony with Australia's newest citizens hailing from all parts of the globe including Bangladesh, Columbia, Nepal, Jordan and Nigeria.

A number of long-time Queanbeyan locals meanwhile, were also recognised with the Australia Day awards handed out.

Recently retired Queanbeyan Show Society president Dawn Mayne was announced as Citizen of the Year while Ally Durr was named as Young Citizen of the Year.

The Event of the Year award went to the Jerrabomberra School Fete while Jerrabomberra Rotary was awarded as the Service Organisation of the Year.
