Prismall replaces Brett Goodes, who earlier this month was rookie-listed by the Dogs.

Prismall had also been contention for that spot.

His new role will involve helping the club's younger players come to terms with working in an elite sporting environment.

James Fantasia, the Bulldogs general manager of football, said Prismall's AFL experience and strong leadership qualities were ideal for the role.

"Brent is a very capable young man and will be instrumental in working with our playing list and, in particular, our younger playing group," he said.

"We believe we've brought another quality person into our organisation and look forward to seeing Brent flourish in his new role."

Prismall also has an excellent relationship with Bulldogs coach, Brendan McCartney, the pair having worked together at Geelong.

He will juggle the role with his football career, having linked with the Bulldogs' VFL affiliate, Williamstown.

Prismall played 61 games in six seasons before he was cut by the Bombers. He reportedly knocked back a one-year offer from Port Adelaide during the trade period.

Power football manager Peter Rohde confirmed Prismall rejected the offer because the 26-year-old wanted the security of a two-year contract to move his family to South Australia.

It's understood Port were not prepared to offer that commitment partly because of doubts about his injury history, which includes two knee reconstructions.
