EXPERIENCE the magic of Christmas in Queanbeyan with The Mayoral's Christmas Light Tour this December.
Queanbeyan City Council has been running the tour for several years, which takes seniors and people with a disability to see Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra's most spectacular Christmas light displays.
This year, Queanbeyan City Council is calling for residents to register their decorated houses as stops on the tour.
"We have seen some outstanding Christmas displays over the years and to ensure we get around to see your place we ask that you register via the easy-to-use form on our website," Mayor Tim Overall said.
One must-see home on the tour is that of Anita Taylor, a Queanbeyan resident who has decorated her Meehan Close home for more than a decade.
During this time, she and her son Nathan have worked to convert their home into a Christmas light heaven for other residents to enjoy.
Though they have been met with adversities like storms, thieves, booming electricity costs and having to travel to Sydney for replacement bulbs, Anita said they still love to decorate every year.
"We couldn't stop putting up our lights if we stopped one year, people would knock on our door and say 'Why aren't you doing it this year?'," Mrs Taylor said.
She has nearly completed decorating for the year, having begun in late October.
Mrs Taylor said she loves the joy the lights bring to Christmas revelers, but also aims to bring Christmas joy to The Cancer Council.
"We accept donations for The Cancer Council; we leave a donation bucket out. They aren't compulsory donations, but last year we raised $1400 in only three weeks."
As well as being able to view Mrs Taylor's house on the Mayoral Tour, she will officially turn on her Christmas lights on December 1.The Mayoral's Christmas Light Tour is running from December 18 to December 20.
