THE Queanbeyan Bears’ C-grade ACT Softball title defence appears well placed as the side returns to action this weekend following the mid-season break.
The Bears currently sit atop the C-grade standings having lost just three games.
This weekend the reigning premiers will take on the Boomerangs and Woden in a Saturday double-header, both matches Queanbeyan will be favoured to win.
This season is the Bears first since taking silver in the Australian Masters Games earlier this year.
Captain/coach Fran Sweeny said she was pleased with how the competition was unfolding heading into the second half of the season.
Sweeny also said this weekend’s games would likely be something of a mixed bag.
‘‘Our games against Boomerangs are usually pretty tight but Woden doesn’t seem to be as strong as last year,’’ she said.
‘‘They may be getting a few players back from injury though after the break so it’s hard to say.’’
The Bears have experienced plenty of success in D-grade as well this season with the side holding down second place on the ladder.
This weekend Bears 2 will take on Boomerangs while in E-grade, Bears 3 are set to meet Boomerangs Red and Calwell in the side’s double header.
On Monday, the club’s men’s team will face off against the Tuggeranong Storm in a grand final rematch.
