Roos hold on for ten point win

10 Jul, 2009 09:54 AM
QUEANBEYAN Kangaroos have begun their march to the finals with another convincing win over third placed Woden Rams on Saturday.

Despite late tries to the visitors the Roos managed to hold on for a 38-28 point win.

The Roos looked sharp and crisp early, putting the sword to the Rams who have struggled defending against Queanbeyan all season.

So far the Roos have managed to amass 84 points against the Rams in their two encounters this year. The Roos are now the best attacking team in the competition and are running third in defence.

Playing coach Adam Taylor said the Rams were a team the Roos loved to play well against but their defence would need to be tightened if they were a chance in the finals.

``Woden are just one of those teams we always seem to play well against, but late in the second half it was the same old story,'' Taylor said.

``We started to leak tries at the end of the game which is a bit of a concern it's something we are going to have to look at.''

Taylor said Roos fullback Daniel Watt was brilliant on the weekend and has now positioned himself as the benchmark for fullbacks in the competition. ``He [Watt] was outstanding on Saturday over the last few weeks he's really lifted to be the form fullback in the competition,'' Taylor said.

``We were lucky to get him actually he came to us late at the start of the season and we really didn't know much about him.

``If he was a bit younger you would back him to go on and make it I thought he was 23 or 24 when he first got here but he's almost 30.''
