THE luck of the draw deserted Queanbeyan women’s bowls this week after all three of the club’s sides competing in the ACT Fours tournament were placed in the same half of the competition.
That means there’s no chance of an all-Queanbeyan Bowling Club final but a semi-final spot for one of the sides is a strong possibility if they play to their potential.
The event will be held across town at the Queanbeyan RSL Memorial Bowling Club.
After enjoying the bye last round in the Friday night Club Challenge, Queanbeyan will be looking forward to putting in a good showing against Belconnen tonight.
Previous match results between the clubs are tied at two wins apiece suggesting this should be a closely-fought contest with plenty of quality bowls on display.
The new season is really starting to kick into full swing now, as evidenced by another great roll up at social bowls this week.
Darby’s Derby, a culmination of the club’s popular ‘Try Bowls’ series will begin on Tuesday evening and run for the next four weeks.
Looking to the future, the draw for the club’s major pairs competition will be on display in the clubhouse this weekend.
Matches commence on Saturday, February 11.
Saturday will also see a meeting held at the Deakin West Club for all those juniors wishing to have a say in the ACT Juniors squad format.
The new development officer for this area will be on hand to listen to - and meet with - interested parties and this is a great opportunity to have your suggestions heard.
On the same night, the ACT will be hosting a presentation evening at the Tuggeranong Bowls Club. A number of Queanbeyan club members will be on hand to receive their well-earned prizes.
Next Tuesday the club will be hosting a 90th birthday celebration for one of our life members Roma Greentree. All ladies are most welcome to attend the lunch following social bowls.
Finally, mixed social bowls have recommenced on Thursday mornings. Any interested bowlers just need to ring their name in by 9.10am on the day and will be given a warm welcome.
