 Kiwi connection claim pairs crown

Kiwi connection claim pairs crown

04 Feb, 2012 01:32 PM
KIWIS Dave Paul and Sean Robertson are this year’s pairs champions after defeating last year’s winners Andy Kaden and Jason Johnson in last weekend’s final.

The victory saw Robertson claim his first title at the club since the former New Zealand under 25s representative crossed the ditch three years ago.

It is Paul’s second pairs crown having taken out the same event two years ago.

The duo was largely untroubled in claiming the championship, dominating from start to finish on the way to a 20-14 victory.

The ACT pennants season also got underway last weekend with mixed results for the club.

Robertson continued his good form to lead the number one side to a 65-47 victory over West Deakin despite Queanbeyan winning just one of the three rinks on offer.

Both Peter Daly and Rob Chesher went down by two but it hardly mattered as Robertson ran away with his match en route to a 20-shot rout.

This weekend the side will take on last year’s winners Tuggeranong. It was also good news for the club’s number two and number three sides who both recorded comfortable victories.

Both teams face away games against last season’s grand finalists Weston Creek in round two.

The number four side will also meet the club they defeated in last year’s grand final this week but will need to improve dramatically after copping a 78-47 hiding on the weekend.

Both the number six and number seven sides were also soundly beaten by Canberra North.

This weekend will see the number six side travel to Belconnen, while the number seven team is at home to the same opposition.

Finally, in Club Championships news, the A Singles will continue this weekend. Also, the club’s fours team of Daly, Chesher, Peter Rowe and Scott Dagwell will play the quarter finals of the ACT Championships at the Canberra Bowling Club.
