Registration in the festival is an indication of the growing strength of the sevens competition, which will be played at Taylor Park on March 13.
Sponsored by Sportsman's Warehouse, the Queanbeyan Sevens has quickly established itself as one of the biggest short form carnivals in NSW, even rivalling the might of Kiama.
President of Queanbeyan Whites, David Jones, believes the $5000 worth of prize money should attract plenty of interest from ACT, country and Sydney clubs.
The men's winning team will take away $2000 while the women's and colts' will receive $1000.
“We appreciate the support of Sportsman's Warehouse in making the Campese Sevens such an attractive competition,” he said.
“The cross border co-operation shows the regional nature of such events.”
Queanbeyan has several outstanding sevens players, including Jamie Marmont, Robbie Coleman and James Stannard.
Coleman and Stannard are current members of the Australian Sevens, with Stannard having a stand out game at the recent Wellington Sevens.
Whites coach Wayne Southwell has plenty of players to choose from, with speed and fitness the key selection requirements.
Players like Sam French, Josh Goodall, Daniel Penca, Cameron Stanley and Robbie Beath provide plenty of pace, while Tim McNamara, David Beath and Daren Bulley can provide the grunt.
With the inclusion of Sevens in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games, there is a surge of interest in the game which is set to become a sport in its own right.
