QUEANBEYAN Tigers coach Kade Klemke has confirmed the club’s off-season recruitment drive is all-but complete following the acquisition of Wahgunyah duo Ben King and Nathan Kerlin.
The double signing brings the number of new faces in the Tigers den to six heading into the 2012 NEAFL season.
Kerlin and King join former Essendon player Jarrod Atkinson, Josh Bryce and Kade and Ben Klemke in putting pen to paper with Queanbeyan following the club’s lacklustre 2011 campaign.
With the Tigers’ preseason now well underway and the first trial match of the year looming, Kade Klemke said it was unlikely there would be any further additions to the first-grade roster.
‘‘At this stage I think we’re pretty much done,’’ he said. ‘‘If anything comes up obviously we’ll look to take it but we haven’t gone chasing after anyone else.
‘‘We’ve got a young side but we’ve gone and recruited the guys we wanted to bring to the club and got the guys we needed so I’m pretty happy with where we’re standing.’’
King and Kerlin spent the past season playing together for Wahgunyah in the Tallangatta and District League where they finished one-two in the club’s end of season best and fairest count.
While Kerlin only arrived in Queanbeyan last weekend, King has been training with the squad for nearly a month after being recommended to the club by his good mate.
‘‘The club was in contact with Nathan and he put my name forward,’’ King said. ‘‘Then they ended up contacting me as well so it was pot luck I got invited up here really.
‘‘The boys seem like a grouse group of young players and Kade’s a good bloke who knows what he’s talking about so it should be a great opportunity,’’ he said.
Despite being approached first by the Tigers, it took Kerlin a little longer to warm to the idea of packing up shop and heading to Queanbeyan.
‘‘Kade rang me before Christmas to see if I was interested in coming up and I was umming and arring about it for a while,’’ Kerlin said.
"Then Ben gave me his word that’d it’d be worth the move and there’s not much that happens around Wahgunyah and Corowa so I thought I’d give it a go.’’
The apprentice electrician was always on the Tigers radar having come to the attention of Kade Klemke during his time at with the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup.
The 20-year-old ruckman will bring some much needed height to the Tigers pack and is seen by the club as a potential long-term prospect in centre-field.
