AUSTRALIAN under 21s cricket representative Em Preston hopes to cement her place in the national women's team within three years after she had a taste of the international game last month.
The Queanbeyan captain, who is just 17 years old, is still eligible to play in the under 21s team until 2011/2012 but said she was eager to represent her country at the highest level.
``Being in the atmosphere and being in the green and gold, it was amazing,'' Preston said.
``I explained it to someone in three words the other day exciting, nerve-wracking and also very educational, I got a lot out of it.
``I felt very privileged to be able to bowl to the Australian team and to learn from them as well where they set their fields and how they bowl and the way they handle themselves.
``It was exciting playing against the Indians too. They're touring and you don't get to play against them every day.''
Preston peaked two Sundays ago in a one-day match against India at Bowral where she was Australia's best bowler, taking 3/36 including the prized scalp of Indian opener MDT Kamini.
Earlier in the week, she had taken her first international catch, a memory she said would stay with her forever.
``I got a catch in the 50-over game against Australia down in Sydney. I was at mid on and caught their opener out, Alex Blackwell I'll never forget that, I was pretty stoked,'' Preston said.
Leg 2The next goal for the 17-year-old is to gain reselection in the under 21s team that will play Leg 3warm-up matches against countries playing in the Women's World Cup next February.
