THE QUEANBEYAN Bluebags have seemingly turned their batting woes around for the moment, salvaging a first inning loss against Wests/UC at Jamieson on Saturday with a solid second innings score of two for 119.
The visitors resumed batting under pressure after the previous week's play had the Bluebags bowled out for 108 runs in a 248 run chase.
Staring at an inevidable outright defeat, a solid captain's knock and good support from the Bluebags younger batsmen in the second innings withstood the Wests wrath and escaped a devastating loss.
"We batted very badly in the first innings, but batted very well in the second," said Bluebags coach Adam Heading.
"The batters just found confidence and performed exceptionally well considering the circumstances.
"Their running between the wickets was unbelievable."
Captain Peter Coleborne got the Bluebags off to an important successful start, but fell 10 runs short of a half century after being given out LBW by a Bayly ball.
Heading, exuasted from a week long tour of Tasmania with the ACT Comets, showed his tiredness and was bowled for one run by Bayly.
Another collapse never looked evident, with Martin (34) and Stensrud (30) helping the Bluebags over the line.
Bluebags pound Wests in One dayer
Truly a team of "confidence-players", the Bluebags followed up with a smashing victory on Sunday against Wests in the one day match, bring Queanbeyan's one day record in 2004/2005 to two wins out of two games.
"I would say we are a better one day team, we just seem to feel more confident and less under pressure than in a two-dayer," said Heading.
"The boys again batted superbly and are showing good signs."
