SATURDAY'S five-run defeat to the ANU in what was the Queanbeyan Bluebags' first performance for season 2004/2005, has been described as "disgraceful" by head coach Adam Heading.
"I thought we lacked a lot of confidence for some reason. We were absolutely disgraceful," said Heading on Monday morning.
"I said that to the boys after the game, and told them that they desperately need to get in the nets and build up their confidence.
"Our batters didn't have any faith in themselves, and did some stupid things. You learn in juniors that when you lose a quick wicket, you don't go for the slog. You stay in and get on top of the opposition.
"To be perfectly honest, their bowlers were terrible. Everyone got out off a bad ball which was very disappointing.
The Bluebags suffered a major middle order crisis, losing six wickets for just nine runs.
Heading's only highlight for the day was that of the performances from Michael Frost, 44, and Jeremy Eagles, 52.
"The lower order batters, namely Eagles and Frosty definitely showed the middle order boys a thing or two about batting. They stayed in and didn't lose their heads," said Heading.
Chasing 174, Queanbeyan suffered a shaky start with Maddox out for a duck.
Captain Peter Coleborne and Ben Stensrud got the Bluebags back on track, with both batters making starts.
With both batters reaching 20, ANU bowler M Clark struck.
With Coleborne and Stensrud departing in quick succession, Queanbeyan's demise came courtesy to Clark's eventual haul of six for 33.
A strong partnership late in the match from Frost and Eagles all but resurrected Queanbeyan's match, unfortunately coming up short in the last over after the final wicket fell.
The Queanbeyan Bluebags now face up to the might of Weston Creek in what is will be the first of this season's two-day matches.
The Queanbeyan thirds won a thriller against ANU, 119 to 116, however seconds, fourths and fifths all went down to ANU.
