AS farmers, gardeners and rural residents rejoiced over the weekend's downpour, a disappointed Queanbeyan Bluebags team were forced to abandon all hopes of an early win after their match against Weston Creek was washed out on Saturday.
Several inches of rain made play impossible, when a soggy outfield and a wet pitch gave both teams a draw in the opener of the two-day ACT Cricket matches at Stirling.
With Queanbeyan in a strong position after an impressive first innings score of 162, Weston Creek were to start the day without their captain after he was dismissed for five runs.
"It was pretty disappointing to not get out there, but they had a stack of rain and the covers had been on for probably three days. They called it off at 9am," said Bluebags coach Adam Heading.
"But its a result and we didn't lose so that's OK. The boys have plenty of confidence now though, which is great and we will make a few changes before we take on Wests at Boomanulla.
"Coleborne will open for us and I'll come up to number three so we are all pretty excited."
The Bluebags have not won a match for 12 games, but Heading is confident a win is around the corner.
"I reckon we were in with a really good chance last week, so I can't see one being too far away. If we bat how we did next week we could get 250-300. The outfield is lightning fast out there so we'll just have to see how we go."
