Queanbeyan will head into the second day of their match with ANU in a commanding position having knocked the students over for just 88 runs last weekend.

In reply, the Bluebags powered to a healthy score of 180 thanks to Raglan Maddox's unbeaten 41 and a quality 36 from Vele Dukoski.

Bluebags captain Jono Dean said he was happy with the way his side had bowled and would be looking for more of the same this weekend.

After eight batsmen had come and gone, ANU had managed just 47 runs, a strong indication of how well Queanbeyan's bowlers performed.

“It was just one of those days where things came off for us, we were getting some movement and knocks, but really we've been very lucky with our depth,” Dean said.

“We bought up Lea Hansen from third grade, who has a lot of experience having played for Australia A.

“He ended up with three wickets which was good to see.”

Queanbeyan had been stretched before the game, with seven regular first graders out with representative duties or injury.

This weekend sees the return of Mark Higgs, Jordan McLennan and Dean Solway, which will add more strength to Queanbeyan's batting.

Dean said his side would need a repeat performance from his bowlers to knock off the ANU, who will celebrate the return of star batsman Nathan Docker.

“They will pose a challenge for us this weekend,” Dean said.

“They have Nathan Docker back so we will be expecting a bit more from them with the bat.”
