Big score not enough for win

25 Nov, 2004 12:20 PM
A TOP class 81 from Queanbeyan Bluebags head coach Adam Heading was not enough to inspire his troops to a win against Norths at Boomanulla on Saturday.

Still searching for their first win of the season in the two-day arena, Queanbeyan failed to reach it's first-innings target of 250 against Norths, and crashed to an all out 164.

"It was pretty disappointing," said Heading.

"We just got a bit scared. We have a bit of a problem with confidence.

"The pitch wasn't great, but people did make runs on it.

"We go fine in the one-dayers, but for some reason we just really lack confidence in the two-dayers."

In what is becoming a regular problem for Heading and captain Peter Coleborne, the young middle order failed to deliver.

Jamie Anderson was the second highest scorer in the Bluebags first innings with 19, but with Heading was all alone with five of the middle order batsmen scoring less than 10 runs.

"They are pretty young and have a lot of talent," said Heading.

"We just have to remain positive and not get to down about it all."

After starring in the four-day match against the Queensland Academy of Sport cricket side in Brisbane last week, Heading, an ACT Comets representative, was pleased with his 81.

"It was good to find some form with the bat," said Heading.

"But it would've been nice to get 100."

The Bluebags come up against Weston Creek next week at Boomanulla.

Bluebags dead heat in one dayer

After taking 10 scalps for the match, Queanbeyan pace supreme Nathan Madsen is under a heavy injury cloud after damaging his rib-cartlidge in Sunday's one-day match against the ACT-U/19s at Manuka Oval.

"It's is a real worry," said Heading.

"If it is a rib-cartlidge, he is in a bit of trouble.

"He's been bowling very well lately, let's just hope he pulls through OK."

The Konica Cup match against ACT-U19s on Sunday ended up a demoralising draw, with the Queanbeyan batsmen coming up just short in the 195 run chase.

Heading again top scored for Queanbeyan with 55.

"I think we lost about three wickets for two runs in the last few overs," said Heading.

"It felt like a loss, I was very disappointed.

Number three batter Dean Mansfield also hit good form with the bat, scoring 44.

"It is better than a loss on the scoreboard, but we could've won it," said Heading.

"That's just cricket though."
