 Uni here I come

Uni here I come

22 Jan, 2009 03:46 PM
MORE than 55,000 people learned if they had secured a place at a NSW university on Wednesday, when the University Admissions Centre (UAC) made its main round offers.

Karabar High School student and outgoing school captain Alyce Brown is very happy she was accepted to study her first choice of paramedics at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst.

Miss Brown was reluctant to reveal her UAI score, but said she was pleased with the result.

``I was really happy with what I got, with both bands and my UAI, considering that the lead up to exams is a really stressful time for everyone,'' she said.

``I'm interested in the medicine field. Being emergency it's fast paced, and at the end of the day you would feel like you've given back to the community.

``Plus being a Paramedic is more of an outdoor on-the-go job, and I'm not the type of person who likes to be inside a lot.''

Miss Brown said many of her school friends had also been accepted to their chosen courses, but said it was an even split in numbers between those choosing university study or going for other options such as the defence forces, traineeships, or study at TAFE.

``I think there is a lot of emphasis put on uni as all there is to do after school but a lot of people from my year are planning to go to CIT, either to study or through traineeships in the workplace,'' she said.

``There are so many opportunities out there, you just have to work for them.''

Miss Brown will now head to Bathurst next month to study the three year Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) course.

``It's a two year course through an advancement program so I'm hoping to be accepted to that, and the Leg year you're out on the road studying by distance education,'' she said.

``I'm hoping to apply for somewhere back in the Canberra region.''

Miss Brown said she was looking forward to the experience.

``When I consider living in Bathurst I do have mixed emotions because I won't know anybody , but there will be a lot of other people in the same situation,'' she said.

``I'm going to miss my family especially my Dad and my friends but I can come back.''
