FOR the third time in six-months a police officer operating out of Queanbeyan has been caught drink driving. A 27-year-old off-duty detective senior constable was caught last Friday on the Jerrabomberra Parkway at 10.45pm where he allegedly returned a mid-range reading of .09.
The officer has had his driver's license suspended and will face Queanbeyan Local Court on November 2, 2009.
This follows a senior Queanbeyan Highway Patrol officer that faced court in June after being charged with drink driving and a former inspector, who recorded a blood alcohol level of .135.
The inspector, who appeared before court in April, was fined $1000, faced internal disciplinary procedures and had his licence disqualified. Monaro Local Area Superintendent Gary Merryweather said the fact police were being caught demonstrated the integrity of Queanbeyan police officers.
``We certainly reiterate to officers that that behaviour is unacceptable and if they are identified they will be treated like any other member of the public,'' he said.
The police officer charged on Friday is a satellite officer that works for the State Crime Command and is not directly under the command of Superintendent Merryweather.
Meanwhile ACT Policing Traffic Operations will join forces with NSW Police this long weekend during the double demerit period. The double demerit period commences at midnight tonight and finishes at 11.59pm on Monday night.
