AFTER seven years as a model, Heather Brenchley will now step in to help guide aspiring artists as they explore their creative side.
The 24-year-old sculpture student has taken over the weekly life drawing classes at The Artists Shed.
Brenchley has worked as an artist's model since she was 16 and has posed at the shed since 2009.
“The first time I modelled it was really liberating in the sense that I was able to enjoy my body for what it was and feel it is ok to be naked,” she said.
“I was also very appreciative for the experience; I am a sculptor as well so it was good to see it from the other side.”
Brenchley took over the class from Dennis Mortimer last week and now hopes to attract people of all abilities to explore their artistic side.
The casual drawing group has been running at the Artists Shed for nearly six years.
“I have been modelling at the shed for about two years so when the opportunity to run the class came up, I put my hand up for it,” she said.
“It seemed the logical progression after modelling for so long.
“The idea is that people come along and treat it as a part of their weekly routine.
“I want people to take part in a little life drawing like they would a weekly walk.
“It's an easy going and self-paced class; you can come and draw as you want.”
In front of the fire, the group is also invited to enjoy a glass of wine as they draw one of the 10 models on the shed's books.
“It gives the drawers a bit of variety. The class is about exploring your practice and learning how to keep going with the drawing,” Brenchley said.
“Anyone can do it, we are trying to dispel the idea that there are people who can't draw.”
The Artists Shed Life Modelling class is held every Tuesday evening from 7-9pm.
