A GROUP of Queanbeyan Girl Guides has seen their fundraising efforts in action as they joined more than 1100 of their peers in Sydney last weekend.
The six senior guides spent last Friday night camped out at the Taronga Zoo as part of the Great Guide Sleepover. The group was welcomed by zoo keepers and shown around the facility before joining more than a thousand guides at a huge disco.
Queanbeyan Guide Leader Chris Butler said after the dancing there was still time for a movie before bed.
“We then slept out under the star inside the zoo, it was a great experience,” Ms Butler said.
“But being right on the harbour we all woke up at 5am when one of the international ships was leaving and blew its horn, that was guaranteed to wake us all up.”
She said it was worth getting up early for the chance to watch the sun rise over the harbour.
On Saturday the girls were free to explore the zoo.
Aside from being plenty of fun the weekend also raised much needed funds to help the zoo’s conversation efforts for the Southern Corroboree Frog, a threatened species native to southern NSW.
