SHE'S now completely bald, and her family won't let her out of the house without a hat, but Yvette Latu couldn't be happier with her decision to shave her head.
The long-time Queanbeyan woman lost her blonde locks at half-time in the Whites game on Saturday to raise money for the ACT Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group. Earlier in the day, Phil Hawke shaved his beard and Tim Hawke lost his rats tail.
Mrs Latu estimated more than $10000 was raised for Leg 2the charity, but she said not all of the money had been counted yet.
``The count so far is at just over $7000, and we've still got money to come in from the pink jumpers the players wore, the auction and other donations,'' she said.
``I was hoping for about five thousand and I said I wouldn't shave my head for less than two, and people have been great. It's like wow, there's been so much support from the community especially in this economic climate.
``Every five dollars helps and it goes straight to the Cancer Support Group who help the people in the community who really need it and that's a good thing.''
Mrs Latu decided she would raise money for the charity by shaving her head when a close friend of hers was diagnosed with cancer for a second time, 12 months ago.
She said being bald took a bit of getting used to, but said it had its advantages.
``I slept with a beanie on for the first three nights, and I don't leave the house without a beanie on,'' Mrs Latu said. ``It's great in the mornings though, I save about 10 minutes every day not having to worry about my hair.''
